Day 36 - 22nd Mar 2009

Another fairly early start so we could catch the train to Fremantle and then the ferry to Rottnest Island. It wasn't the best of starts though as there was no hot water when we tried to shower! Had a boring breakfast of toast.

Arrived at the island slightly late as the ferry was delayed but didn't really matter. Went straight to the bike hire place and got ourselves a couple of bikes, decided against a tandem! Bought a subway lunch to take with us and set off round the island. A route all round the island was 22 km so we decided to do that. There's loads of places along the route to stop at, nice bays, a lighthouse and beaches. The island is really picturesque and as cars aren't allowed it's great for biking. We had lunch overlooking the sea at some cliffs, Adam saw a snake but it ran, or slithered, away so we were ok. There are also loads of animals called Quokkas, they are kinda like minature wallabies. They all seem pretty tame though, I guess they are used to the friendly tourists.

About halfway round Adam managed to fall off his bike somehow, almost taking me out with him! He got up and was ok, just a bit of grazing on his hand. So we decided it was time for a break and had a stop at a nearby beach. I went for a swim, the water was pretty cold but once you were in it was ok. We slowly carried on our bike ride stopping at a couple more beaches before getting back to the jetty pretty tired.

The ferry back to Fremantle was pretty late so by time we go back we were starving. Got a large fish and chips each from a place by the water in Fremantle. Just about managed to finish it all! Then got the train back to Perth and went to bed very tired, not even the trains were going to bother me!
